Lee's Summit, Missouri, is about 20 miles from downtown Kansas City and spans Jackson and Cass counties. The 2010 U.S. census records the city’s population as 91,364, making it the sixth-largest city in Missouri.

Parks and Recreation
The City of Lee’s Summit’s Parks and Recreation Department has taken a proactive approach to managing the city’s inherent natural beauty, as well as continually developing its parks, trails and greenway systems.

In 1998, the department and the city’s planning commission approved a sweeping, comprehensive plan to protect the rapidly expanding city’s open space, and to fulfill the requirements of recreational trail users, including hikers, walkers, bicyclists and joggers.

Lee’s Summit has more than 20 neighborhood parks within its city limits. A number of them provide playgrounds, picnic shelters and trails. There are also two community centers accessible to the town’s residents and visitors seeking indoor activities, such as racquetball, aerobics and basketball.

In July 2008, Summit Waves opened. This phenomenal outdoor water park holds a body slide, tube slide, six-lane lap pool with diving boards, mini-slides, dump buckets, and a comprehensive concession stand.

Lee’s Summit contains an admirable blend of historic Americana and modern buildings. Its neighborhoods boast classic two-story homes, as well as exciting new estate homes.

Schools, Health, Transportation
Lee’s Summit R7 School District serves the public education needs of the city’s school-age youngsters. It contains 18 elementary schools, three middle schools and three high schools. Some of the other schooling alternatives include the Summit Technology Academy, Summit Ridge Academy and Great Beginnings Early Childhood Center.

The medical and health care requirements of the residents of Lee’s Summit are primarily served by Truman Medical Center Lakewood, St. Luke’s East Hospital and Lee’s Summit Medical Care Center.

The City of Lee's Summit has a contract with both OATS and the Kansas City Area Transportation Authority (KCATA) to serve its resident’s transit needs. The area is also served by Amtrak passenger trains and several highways.
