Lakewood Community Real Estate & Information

Lakewood Community Real Estate & Information

Lakewood is a 2,200-acre property owner’s association development located in the city of Lee’s Summit, Missouri, about 14 miles East of Kansas City.

It's an elegant and inviting subdivision that’s far enough off the beaten path of the nearby Kansas City metropolis that you’ll feel like you’ve stepped into an alternate universe.

Perhaps the most unique feature of this community is that, unlike most other golf course subdivisions, Lakewood is not new. The first unit was purchased in 1972. The simple fact that it’s still a thriving community can be seen as a testament to its desirability and to the Lakewood Property Owner's Association keeping it in that condition throughout the last 39 years.

Shopping and Dining
There are two restaurants located within the Lakewood Oaks Golf Club, as well as convenience shops and services near the entrance to the club.

All of the myriad shopping choices and ethnically diverse restaurants in Kansas City are available to Lakewood’s residents and visitors, as well as the city of Lee’s Summit’s several unique shops and eateries.

Lee’s Summit offers more than 40 locally owned and operated specialty shops. Among these retailers you'll discover gourmet food products, home decor, jewelry, clothing and much more.

Sure, there are nationwide chains in this suburban community, including Arby’s, Subway and Sonic, but if you want to try some local restaurants, stop in at Summit Hickory Pit BBQ, Habanero’s Mexican Restaurant, and Perazelli’s Italian cuisine.

Lee’s Summit is also the home of one of the area’s premier shopping destinations: Summit Fair. This open-air-style, one-stop-shopping center, offers a vast assortment of retailers and restaurants. Well-known, nationwide retailers, like JCPenney, Macy’s and Walmart are here, alongside local favorites, like Crazy 8 children’s apparel, Hobby Lobby, and Charming Charlie men’s apparel.

Parks and Recreation
In addition to the 320-acre lake and private championship golf course and club, every one of Lakewood’s homeowners has access to a wealth of recreational facilities.

Some of the amenities Lakewood’s residents enjoy include four community swimming pools, two community clubhouses, seven tennis courts, two lighted basketball courts, seven playgrounds for the little ones, and two marinas with a total of almost 400 slips – among other options.

Living
There are tremendous advantages to living so near to an urban hub like Kansas City. Lakewood’s residents have easy access to all of the shopping, entertainment and other big city conveniences, and are able to escape to their cozy home in Lakewood’s serene golf course community.

There are about 10,000 to 12,000 people living in Lakewood. The development mostly contains single-family homes, but there are also approximately 200 multi-family units.

Schools, Health, Transportation
The Lee’s Summit R7 School District serves the educational needs of Lakewood’s school-age children. There are 18 elementary schools, three middle schools and three high schools in the district, as well as the Summit Technology Academy, Summit Ridge Academy and Great Beginnings Early Childhood Center.

The health care and medical needs of the residents of Lakewood are primarily served by St. Luke’s East Hospital, Lee’s Summit Medical Care Center and Truman Medical Center, Lakewood.

Lakewood’s transportation services are generally provided by Lee’s Summit Public Works Department. In addition to good quality county roads, the Airport Division manages Lee’s Summit’s municipal airport, which is one of the busiest non-towered airports in Missouri.
