Shopping and Dining
Shopping and dining options in and near Lake Winnebago would be the envy of most other small towns in America. Residents and visitors have convenient access to Kansas City, a major metropolitan area with all the amenities and features associated with it.

If you’re not a fan of the urban environment and its inherent crowds, traffic and bustle, do not despair. With nearly 100,000 people living in its 20 individual municipalities, Cass County has the wherewithal to provide you with a wide variety of distinctive shops and unique restaurants.

Sure, there are nationwide chains in this suburban area, such as Sonic, Subway and Taco Bell, but if you prefer independent eateries, stop in at Habanero’s Mexican Restaurant in Lee’s Summit, Summit Hickory Pit BBQ also in Lee’s Summit, and Perazelli’s Italian cuisine in Greenwood.

In nearby Lee’s Summit, you will also find a premier shopping destination called Summit Fair. Summit Fair is a 550,000-square-foot, open-air, one-stop-shopping center, containing a huge variety of shopping delights, including not only well-known, nationwide retailers, such as JCPenney, Macy’s and Walmart, but also local favorites, like Crazy 8 children’s apparel, Hobby Lobby, and Charming Charlie men’s apparel.

Most of the terra firma that statistic keepers count as urban in Cass County is located within the gigantic Kansas City Metropolitan Area mentioned earlier. Which means that the 37 percent of rural acreage left over is what you would probably classify as quaint, charming, alluring, scenic, picturesque...well, you get the idea.

Nestled in the crook of all this natural beauty and splendor, Cass County residents and the residents of its individual communities, including Lake Winnebago, have an embarrassment of parks and recreation riches.

If you like boating, fishing, swimming, sailing and/or waterskiing, you will fall in love with the Cass County area. Lake Jacomo, Longview Lake, and Blue Springs Lake are all within a very short drive, and offer almost limitless water-related fun time options.

Oh yes, and there’s also the actual lake of Lake Winnebago just outside of town! Technically, it’s a reservoir, but that doesn’t make it any less beautiful. It spreads, blue and sparkling, over .36 square-miles, and is perfect for all of the aforementioned aquatic activities, especially fishing. Anglers can target walleye, northern pike and muskie, plus flathead and channel catfish.

Many of the workers in Cass County, who don’t commute into metro Kansas City, are employed in the industries of construction, agriculture, forestry, fishing and hunting, and the food and beverage business.

Life in the serene, idyllic neighborhoods of Lake Winnebago is relaxing, comfortable and quiet. In spite of its small size, it has its own police department.

In addition to its tranquility, the city is also only 20 miles from all of the entertainment, shopping and dining, and art and culture that you could ever want in Kansas City.

Schools, Health, Transportation
Lake Winnebago public education is provided via the Lee’s Summit R7 School District. There are 18 elementary schools, three middle schools and three high schools in the district, as well as the Summit Technology Academy, Summit Ridge Academy and Great Beginnings Early Childhood Center.

St. Luke’s East Hospital, Lee’s Summit Medical Care Center and Research Belton Hospital are the health and medical care centers that serve Lake Winnebago’s residents and visitors.

In addition to the abundant highways and byways spider-webbing all over Cass County, transportation options include the Kansas City International Airport, Amtrak Passenger Trains, The Metro Bus (Kansas City Area Transportation Authority), and Senior Transportation (OATS Transportation Service).
